This Museum, one of the jewels of the beautiful medieval city of Kaysersberg, is set up on the first floor of a patrician residence built in 1521 by Reinhard Wide. Aimé Maire' s heirs transferred the building to the City which had it rehabilitated in 1972. As you walk through the Museum, you will discover invaluable religious works of art (a shrine Madonna dated 1380, a Christ with palms from the 15th century), statues of the apostles and saints from Saint-Wolfgang's Chapel and the Récollets' (Franciscans') convent, works by the Rothbletz, sculptors in Kaysersberg in the 18th century. The Museum also contains finds from local archaeological digs, from the prehistoric times to the Roman period, as well as secular works of art and various noteworthy objects: a remarkable Delft blue earthenware stove, cast-iron chimney plates, local furniture, weapons and even a penitent's wooden shoes. There are also displays about Jean Geiler, Mathias Zell and many other native famous people.
